“your Excellency……..I have a request! I am not the fourth prince, but instead, simply Rudolf! However……..however, if you would allow me, please, please let me remain together with Liz in the future as well!”

I prostrated myself right there, on the spot, and made a plea to him as my forehead touched the ground.

Yes……..if Wilhelm’s words were indeed true then, I would soon lose the seat as the fourth prince as well.

In the first place, my betrothal with Liz was made upon the Emperor’s request. Then, now that I was not a prince any longer, this engagement was basically null and void.

That’s why, all I could do was……..to stay together with Liz from here onwards as well, this was the only thing I could do.

Lining up beside me, Liz also prostrated herself as she petitioned.

Even now, for the sake of someone like me who was but a nobody now, I still had a woman like Liz who would go this far.

The Marquis began to rub both mine and Liz’s heads, somewhat roughly, with his big and rugged hands.

Raising my head back up, the Marquis had an awkward, yet an extremely happy looking smile on his face.

I bowed again, and touched the ground with my forehead.

To also hide the happy tears that were gushing down my face.

“now then………first, we need to get you treated properly. I can’t just leave my successor…….no, my adorable son Rudolf, to continue to suffer like this, can I?”

“ah……..e, ehehe……….”

Finally getting to hear him refer to me simply by my name [Rudolf] instead of the more formal [Prince], I began to laugh like my child self did.

“fufu………fufufufufu……..the usual dignified and gallant Lord Rudy is always a sight to behold but, the smile you have right now Lord Rudy is simply far too adorable, and lovely! Ah mou, I can’t hold back anymore!!”

“Wha!? Ehehe……”

Blushing red, Liz jumped and embraced me tightly.

For a moment, it seemed like she too was feeling a bit different than usual but……..the warmth from Liz’s body felt so comforting that I once again, broke into a laugh out of sheer happiness.

Once the post-battle issues at Vander had been solved, we finally made our way back to the Capital.

According to the info found out by Sir Johansson, apparently the majority of the soldiers that were defending fort Vander were Rujians.

He confirmed it with the war prisoners as well so there was no doubt about it.

Furthermore, Wilhelm had been laying plans after all as, right when the Fahlcrantz army would have been fretting over how to attack Fort Vander, a Rujian army of 7000men that was waiting at the national border would move in an attack us from the behind, or at least that was the supposed plan.

We couldn’t exactly send a scout beyond the border just to confirm that though.

If we hadn’t attacked through the underground tunnel, and quickly captured the gates, we really would have been in some serious trouble.

And also……..apparently they also found Duke Svalier’s corpse inside the fortress.

Apparently he was lying on the floor dead and abandoned like a broken doll or something.

When this info came, Liz, Maya and even the Marquis seemed to try and be more considerate for me but, honestly speaking, I didn’t feel any special emotions.

I mean, I never even met the guy my entire life you know?

Even if he was my real father, it was basically empty words and nothing more.

They also searched for Wilhelm’s body downstream but, in the end, they never found it.

I imagine it’s probably sleeping deep under the river……..no, maybe it has become feed for the fishes instead.

That aside.

“owowow……….can they make the carriage run a bit more slowly please……..”

“Lord Rudy, I’m afraid you can’t be complaining here. Perhaps you should learn from this, and not get this hurt from next time onwards, okay?”

“a,ahahaha………”

Inside the carriage, I was scolded by Liz who was giving me a lap pillow so I could only smile wryly.

Still, while saying that, she still gave a quick signal to Maya to get the carriage to run a little slower. Seriously, she couldn’t help but be kind. How cute.

“Once we’re back in the capital, things are going to get hectic huh………”

“You think so? I personally think that it’ll all be settled very quickly instead……”

Liz seemed to cast her eyes down with a sad tone in her voice but, I replied to it in a pretty casual manner.

Yes, my connections to Duke Svalier and everything would be investigated, and I’ll probably be driven out of the Imperial Palace but, to put it differently, now I will finally be able to become a part of the Fahlcrantz family for real. If anything, I couldn’t wait for it.

“However…….your, well, what about your mother……..”

“I have never one thought of that woman as my mother.”

Liz was being considerate but, ever since I recalled my previous life’s memories, I have not once thought of Beatrice as my mother.

But………if there was something on my mind, it would be the slight feeling of guilt towards Queen Alicia who had showed me more motherly affection and kindness than even Beatrice.

“In any case, with this, Rudolf faction will be officially disbanded, and once the mess inside the Imperial household is settled, let’s go touring the capital as promised…….”
