A tale of a new beginning.

“This will be the last time, Prince Rudolf. You must pay a little more attention to your looks milord.”

As I dressed in front of the mirror, Maya showed an exasperated expression before sighing.

Hee……..but this is how I always am though? How unreasonable.

“haah……..fine. also, you’re still calling me [Prince]?”

“ah……….my apologies, Lord Rudolf.”

Maya put out her tongue, and spoke in jest.

Are personal maids expected to be this sly? Be a bit more normal will you?

It was then.

———–*knock**knock*

“Lord Rudy, it is almost time. Are you prepared?”

Wearing a pale blue dress the same colour as her eyes, Liz timidly entered my room.

Yeah, today as well, my beloved looks absolutely stunning enough that I almost forgot how to breathe……….ah

“Lady Lizbeth, hear this. Lord Rudolf just said……….”

Damn you Maya, you’re tattling to Liz now?

“no, no, Maya’s the one who’s being way too fussy.”

“No, Lord Rudolf is.”

Both me and Maya began to argue, and then complained to Liz.

Both of us were desperate to lay the blame of being late on each other.

“fufu, if you still haven’t decided then I think that one will certainly suit you very well Lord Rudy.”

“Then we go with that. Maya, get it ready.”

“Leave it to me!”

Upon Liz’s single word, both me and Maya very quickly finished readying up.

Ah, I did ask Liz to turn her back to me though. I still feel a little embarrassed.

“So……..how does it look?”

“Lord Rudy, absolutely magnificent, is the best way to put it. Simply lovely. Just perfection.”

“Wha!?!”

Hmmm, Liz closed in and quickly embraced me. I’m so happy.

Or rather, ever since our battle with Wilhelm, I feel like these moments of skinship initiated by Liz seem to have increased by quite a bit.

But, perhaps because Liz seemed to have grown a little bit more than me in height recently, it felt more like an older sister pampering her younger brother instead, leaving me feeling a tad awkward.

I-I’ll say this right now but, it’s only a little okay!? Like, about 2cm at best. I’m being honest, I swear!

“th-then, shall we go?”

“yes!”

I took Liz’s hand, and then headed towards the main entrance.

“Prince Rudolf.”

“Sir Rudolf.”

“Rudolf.”

Queen Alicia, Queen Katarina, and Fredrik were waiting there for me.

Right………finally, I will be leaving the Imperial palace………and the scorpio palace.

Perhaps because I had spent all 15 years of my life here, even though I had nothing but bad memories of this place, I still felt a little sad.

Above all…….that precious place, the place where I first met Liz on that day was also here after all.

Furthermore, it shouldn’t come as a surprise but, neither the Emperor not Oscar were here.

Oscar is probably attending his classes at the Academy right about now, and as for the Emperor, well, I doubt he even wants to see my face right now.

Let alone that, if I remained inside the palace, it’s much more likely that he would start hatching plans to have me assassinated as well.

That was one thing, Marquis Fahlcrantz had warned me of as well.

That even if it was only for a short while, I should remain at utmost alert.

To be honest, it may have been safer to leave for the Fahlcrantz house together with the Marquis right there and then but, since Liz had also spent the last year or so here, we did have a lot to pack up and stuff, so I remained to properly settle everything here for good.

“Prince Rudolf……….I’ll miss you.”

“Queen Alicia, I am not a prince any more. So please, simply call me ‘Rudolf” instead.”

“R-really? Then……..Rudolf.“

Queen Alicia, spoke my name, in a somewhat embarrassed manner.

Seriously, this lady is also kind of adorable in her own right.

“Queen Katarina as well, I have no real connections to the Svalier family either, so you can drop the [Sir] as well.”

“ufufu, I suppose so, Rudolf.”

Of course, she on the other hand showed no hesitation in switching to just my name.

Yeah…….I have a feeling the most stubborn and tough person in all of the Imperial palace might actually be Queen Katarina instead.

“Rudolf. I’m hoping to continue to be able to rely on you in the future as well.”

“A,ahaha……..I’ll do my best………”

With the Rudolf faction now no more, I’d prefer if he didn’t keep his expectations too high towards me.

Well, I am still technically the successor to the great Fahlcrantz household though.

“Lord Rudolf, it’s about time………”

“ah, yeah. Then, everyone, thank you for coming here to see me off. And, well……..if you don’t mind, may I come again to visit you every once in a while?”

“!! Of course! You are always welcome here!!”

Upon my words, Queen Alicia showed a beaming smile.

Seriously, what a shocking difference from my actual mother.

But, behind that bright smile, she was also the person who will be unleashing the most terrible kinds of agony on Beatrice as well.

Without letting her live, and without letting her die either.

“Then, Thank you for everything!”

“Thank you for everything.”

Seen off by those three, we left the Imperial palace.

“fufu……….a lot happened huh……..”

“Yeah, it sure did……..”

Inside the carriage, me and Liz sat side by side and smiled at each other.

A year and a half ago, after wandering into the space between life and death from a failed poisoning attempt, I regained the memories of my previous life as a mere villager.

Alongside the events of the [War Records of Wilhelm].

To change my future as a tyrant, I struggled, writhed, fought, and amongst it all, reunited with an irreplaceable woman, and was bound with her in marriage.

And thus, after my battle with the hero Wilhelm von Svalier, I have finally regained the future, and the life that Rudolf should have originally deserved.

“ah, mother and Father are waiting outside as well.”

“Ahaha, they are indeed.”

From the carriage’s window, near the entrance of the mansion, we saw the Marquis standing with his hands folded alongside his wife Teresa happily waving her hand at us…….no, I suppose I should start referring to them as father-in-law and mother-in-law instead. The two were waiting for us to arrive.

“Lord Rudy………I am, the happiest person in the world right now. Because I get to be together with you, the love of my life.”

“I am the same. Being able to be together with you Liz, the most lovely girl in the world, and live with such an amazing family……….”

A family. Something I never had until now. A new family.

While the Emperor is still considering erasing my existence somehow, I’m sure there’ll be more dangers and incidents I’ll have to face in the future.

And, if things still proceed as per the [War Records of Wilhelm], the Rujia Empire, the ones who conspired with Wilhelm, will most certainly try and attack the Baldyk Empire in the future as well.

However, I will still grasp hold of my happy future, no matter what.

Together with my beloved Liz, a happy future for us both.

“hmm, we were waiting for you two.”

“ufufu, welcome to the Fahlcrantz family.”

“I shall be in your care, father-in-law, mother-in-law.”
